DCI boss George Kinoti responds to kamiti jail sentence!

The directorate of criminal investigation (DCI)boss, George Kinoti, has responded to a high court judgement sentencing him to four months jail term at Kamiti Maximum Prison.

Kinoti filed an application seeking to bar inspector General of police, Hillary Mutyambai, from apprehending him stating that the orders threatened his responsibilities to the community and might cause irreparable and unfathomable damage to the office he holds.

Noting that, with his duties and mandate he ought to protect the security of the country and region, he further said that jailing him as judge Anthony Murima had directed would be detrimental and cause him an irreparable loss.

However, Kinoti’s attempt to have the orders by judge Antony Murima be quashed failed after judicial review and judge Anthony Ndung’u declined his application.

“I have considered the application. Whereas the matter is urgent given the imminent incarceration of the applicant (Kinoti) and noting that the impugned orders are by a Judge of the High Court.

“and cognizant of the court’s jurisdiction in judicial review and the limitations thereto, it is my considered view that this is not an appropriate case for grant of the sought orders ex parte,” Justice Ndung’u stated.

The DCI boss was sent to jail on 19th November 2021, after the high Court found him guilty of court contempt after failing to return firearm confiscated from cit tycoon and presidential aspirant Jimmy Wanjigi in 2018.

Kinoti was order to surrender to the prison Authorities within seven days so as to commence his four months jail term.
