On 12th September 2021, residents of Butere, kakamega County witnessed a drama in a church during consecration ceremony of the new butere Anglican Diocese bishop Rose Ayiemba Okeno.
This is after the ACK archbishop Rev. Jackson ole sapit barred all political leaders from addressing the congregation, saying from today henceforth churvhes will not be used as political campaign platform. With anger they all started walking out one by one.
“We have said this before and leaders have failed to honour this. Today I want to decree here that we are not going to allow political elites to speak within the church precincts.
“we are not going to allow the pulpit to be used as grounds to propagate political rhetorical, propaganda, hate and spite. No,” Rev. Ole Sapit declared.
Immediately Olesapit made the announcement, several politician started deserting their seat, especially on the VIP side of the tent.
The politician who were present includes Orange Democratic movement party Raila Odinga, ANC party leader Musalia Musavadi, Ford Kenya party leader Moses Wetangula, Kitui governor Charity Ngilu, kakamega governor Wyclife Oparanya, Kisii governor James Ongwae, kakamega senetor clothes Malala, Lugar mp Ayub Savula and nominated senetor Naomy shihonga.
Devolution Cabinet secretary Eugene Wamalwa , Cotu secretary general Francis Atwoli, Kisumu deputy governor Mathews Owili, Siaya Deputy governor James Okumbe, Nominated MP Geoffrey Osotsi, ODM secretary general Edwin Sifuna and MPs Tindi Mwale, Florence Mutua(Busia), (Butere), Elsie Muhanda(women Rep Kakamega), and Asaka Angaya ( Khiwesero) were also in attendance.
